How To Have Impact Online - Google

Launching and Amplifying your Impact Across Social Channels

Welcome to the new marketing world.. The world where your big claims are doubted and customers believe not what you say - but what others say about you.

"The digital and social revolution has empowered consumers with technology, which has given them access to all the information in the world. Consumers now have a powerful voice: what matters most today isn't what you say about your brand--it's what consumers say about it. Brands can influence that conversation, but they can't control it. This is the New Normal.

To succeed in the New Normal, brands must use social and digital to transform their businesses. Their challenge is to create new interactive brand experiences that consumers connect with and want to share. That is the key to ROI, and what we'll be discussing in this live webinar.

This webinar is presented by Maya Grinberg, Chief Evangelist, Social Media Manager at Wildfire by Google."

Myths And Truths About Social Media

This is an interesting article as it speaks to some of the regular myths and silly nonsense that I see all the time. Often from those purporting to be "social media gurus".  So instead of me writing more of the same, here's someone else with the 'good oil'.

Starting with the first myth... which reminds us again what social media marketing is. In case you have not considered this - it is Inbound Marketing.

Here are the top 5 myths that your supervisor, manager, or CEO likely believes about social media, along with some strategies to enlighten them.

1.    Myth:  Social Media Is Free, Right?

This is the most common fantasy about social media out there – that it is free, just because there is no cost to set up an account on social media.  This is a huge myth!  Establishing your business on one or more social media networks takes an investment of financial and human capital.

Truth:  It is true that social media marketing aka inbound marketing, costs less per lead than traditional outbound marketing.  According to Hubspot, social media costs an average of 60% less than traditional outbound marketing.  In order to leverage your efforts, make sure to connect your marketing strategies, traditional and social. Use your other marketing efforts to promote your social presence, and use your social presence to promote your traditional marketing efforts.

You can read the other myths here

What do you know about social media that turned out to be a myth? What do you think you know about social media that might still be a myth? And how do you separate the myths from the truth of social media? There is some great news and it is true. Find out the difference.

There are a great many benefits to using social media to keep your business relevant and visible where customers are looking for products and services.  If you'd like some help with that, give me a call on 0403 365 855 - Lindy

Your Business Blog

For any business, informing the public that you are in business, where you are located and what products and services you provide is key to being successful.

Once upon a time we did this through word of mouth, advertising in the newspapers and on TV and radio.

We still need to do this but now we have more options.

You'll have noticed that the newspaper industry is going through a lot of turmoil now. That's because the area that made the most money for them, is drying up. Classifieds are not generating the profit that they used to bring into the newspaper.

What does that mean for business? It is a clue to what's happening in the marketplace. Why are the newspapers not selling so many classified ads? Because the marketplace - customers - are looking elsewhere to find out about what they will buy.

Customers are looking on the internet to find out about what is available, what works best, what price should it be and who they know who has one.  Searches directly on  Google are one way that we research now. Asking our friends on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter is another way.

Our blog is the key to getting our information out to the marketplace - all the things that we want customers to know about our services and products, and why they should do business with us.

  • Our blog gives us the place to put that information and update it regularly.
  • Our blog creates a link that can be shared on the social platforms like Facebook or G+
  • Our blog is the space where we can continually share new stories about the business. Where customers can get to know us, know what our values are, what we are great at.

Just like having our own media and public relations office, our blog allows us to  expand our reach and answer all those questions that customers need to make a good purchase decision and to feel welcome to do business with us.

Next time we'll look at how we can approach content marketing using a blog.
